Meaning of this artwork

"Illuminated Reverence: The Lantern Shrine of Kasuga Taisha"

I couldn't tell you how much I love Nara’s Lantern Shrine.  The term "Lantern Shrine" refers to Kasuga Taisha due to its iconic and extensive collection of lanterns, which play a significant role in the shrine's identity and rituals. The shrine is adorned with thousands of lanterns, both stone lanterns lining the pathways and bronze hanging lanterns within the shrine buildings.

These lanterns are symbols of illumination and guidance in the spiritual context, representing the light that guides the spirits and the faithful. During specific festivals like the Mantoro festivals, the lanterns are lit, creating a mystical and sacred atmosphere that is central to the shrine's appeal and significance. The sight of all these lanterns illuminated is both a visual spectacle and a spiritual experience, making the nickname "Lantern Shrine" a fitting descriptor for Kasuga Taisha.
