Featured Artist: Bhaggawent Kaur - love, KAUR

At The Lexi Studio, we love shining a light on inspiring artists who pour their hearts into their work. This time, we’re excited to introduce you to Bhaggawent Kaur, a Malaysian artist currently based in the Netherlands. Her creations radiate hope, positivity, and spirituality, reflecting her journey of self-discovery and artistic expression. Through her work, she encourages others to follow their dreams. Let's dive into her story!

Where are you based?
The Netherlands

How would you describe your art style in a few words?
Inspiring, hopeful, positive, spiritual, mystical

What inspired you to start creating art?
Art has always been my escape. I pursued Fashion & Design, drawn to avant-garde fashion, but chose job security over uncertainty. Life led me to the digital world, yet my love for travel remained. In 2016, I left Malaysia, embracing the unknown. My journey taught me that many bury their dreams for security. Settling in the Netherlands in 2021, I found space for art again. Now, I create to inspire others to pursue their passions and truly live.

Can you share a bit about your creative journey so far?
I started creating again in April 2022, giving myself a year to create with no intent to monetize. By April 2023, after many requests for prints, I took a leap and registered as a sole proprietor. The first year was slow, and I almost quit to focus solely on art. But in late 2024, business picked up, and I broke even. Now, I'm learning to balance creating art, developing merchandise, and running a business.

What themes or messages do you explore in your work?
There is one overarching theme in my work: Follow your dreams. Each piece focuses on a specific message—self-belief, courage, resilience, trust, intuition, growth, hope. These are the tiny yet mighty forces that keep us going through the toughest days while pursuing our goals.

Do you have any favourite mediums or tools?
At the moment, it's digital, though I’ve secretly been exploring more traditional methods. I love mixed media, so I’ve been playing around with rope, palette knives, acrylics, and moulding paste. I’m not sure where it’s leading, but I’m just having fun with it.

What has been the biggest challenge in your art journey?
Balancing being an artist, a brand, and a business owner—on top of my day job that pays the bills so I’m not pressured to make art solely for income.

What are you currently working on or experimenting with?
I’m expanding my merchandise and aiming to bring my art to bigger platforms through immersive exhibitions. My goal is to guide visitors on a journey—where they are now vs. where they could be if they followed their dreams. The exhibition will capture the thoughts and emotions of pursuing one's passions. Just a little glimpse into the future of Love, KAUR. ;)

How do you stay motivated and inspired?
I believe that if you're pursuing something that is your calling, motivation comes naturally. You'll easily want to keep going. At least for me, every action, every step I take I know that it is creating a ripple effect. They may be small, but I believe so deeply that it is all leading me towards bigger dreams that I have. I draw inspiration from life; through interaction and observation of people. Their thoughts, feelings, words they choose to use that are ingrained in their subconscious.. just to share a few =)

Have you ever faced creative blocks? How do you overcome them?
Yes I absolutely have. Honestly, i don't have the answer to overcoming them. What has worked for me is to ride that wave and to look back and remind myself how far I've come. I don't need to be creating all day, every day. I have learned to trust that when creativity needs a vessel to express, it would pay me a visit and I would get to work. And usually that is exciting but can also be overwhelming.

What do you hope people feel when they see your work?
Inspired, Hopeful, Believe that their dreams are worth pursuing and not to be buried deep within their hearts and brought to their grave. And that they take action. Even if it is small, a step ahead is a step forward.

Have you connected with other artists or communities that have helped you?
Yes! I love the Janolo community! I’ve even made friends and met some of them while travelling!

How do you engage with your audience?
Through social media and sometimes, we end up being friends and meeting up! I believe in treating people the way you want to be treated. And I would like to be treated as a friend. Hence I treat my audience as my friends, even if I have never met them in person (yet)

What’s one dream project or goal you’d love to achieve?
To create an immersive exhibition that is sensory inducing to inspire and create hope for people to follow their dreams.

Where do you see your art journey going in the next year?
We're touring the world! I would love to be part of bigger, more exciting festivals and events around the world that I could set up my booth and share the seed of dreaming big with people around the world!

Any upcoming projects or releases you’d like to share?
Absolutely! Its an exciting year at love, KAUR because we've just launched our first product of 2025 - The Adventure Bingo Poster and we're on track to release the most inspiring product in the market this Spring (April 2025), and a few other tools that we hope would become your go-to tool while pursuing your dreams and goals. These will be launched August 2025 onwards. You can follow along the journey of creating these products on my Instagram channel =)

Where can people find your work?
Website: lovekaur.com
Instagram: instagram.com/lovekaurdotcom

What’s one random fact about you?
Uuhh!! Nothing to do with art, but I used to have hair that was so long it would touch the ground. I grew up in a traditional Sikh household. Hence, keeping our hair was a religious thing.

Favourite creative ritual or habit?
Light a candle, have a big pot of tea and a big tea mug, slow vibe music, my couch, and my iPad =)

Any advice for other small artists starting out?
Depending on your goal as an artist starting out, I have differing advice. If you're an artist starting out to simply create because you love it, then pick up a tool you absolutely love and start creating. Get out of your head and get into your heart. Art is created from the heart, not the mind. If your goal is to create a business or generate income from your art, I'd advice you to start with the most unsexiest thing ever: DO YOUR RESEARCH. Monetizing your art isn't just about creating and posting on social media in hopes of becoming an overnight success. You need to build a foundation before you can build your home. Your research is basically answering all the questions that is running through your mind. And this is the step that many people skip out because they believe it isn't necessary. Making art is one aspect of things, but monetizing your art is a whole other world on it's own =)
